8 Best Plumbing Commission Software Platforms

September 26, 2026

Choosing Plumbing Commission Software

Plumbing commission software calculates what each technician earns from the jobs they complete and the work they sell. The right choice depends on where your job data lives and how many different ways you pay.

We evaluated each platform on four criteria:

  1. Field service integration: does it pull completed jobs automatically from the software you already run?
  2. Plan flexibility: can it handle different rates for drain calls, water heater installs, and sewer work?
  3. Technician visibility: can plumbers see what each job paid them?
  4. Approval before payroll: can the owner review and adjust payouts before they are paid?

What a Plumbing Commission Plan Has to Handle

Plumbing work is uneven. A drain call and a water heater or sewer line replacement carry very different material costs. A single commission rate rarely fits both, which is why the basis you pay on matters.

Here is a hypothetical water heater install to show the difference: a $3,500 job with $1,400 in materials, paid at 10%.

  1. Paid on revenue: $3,500 × 0.10 = $350
  2. Paid on gross profit: ($3,500 − $1,400) × 0.10 = $2,100 × 0.10 = $210
  3. Difference on one job: $350 − $210 = $140

Plumbing plans can also mix in flat spiffs, like a set amount per drain cleaning, and splits when a lead plumber and an apprentice share an install. Keep those three pieces in mind (the pay basis, spiffs, and splits) as you read each platform below.

1. TeamBuyIn

Best for: plumbing companies on Housecall Pro or Jobber that pay technicians on completed jobs.

TeamBuyIn is built only for home service performance pay. Completed jobs sync from Housecall Pro or Jobber, your rules apply automatically, and every payout goes through review and approval before a one-tap CSV export to payroll. Plumbers see what each job paid them and how it was calculated in the app.

It covers all three pieces from the section above:

  • Pay basis: percentage of revenue and percentage of profit
  • Spiffs: fixed-dollar payouts, like a set amount per drain cleaning
  • Splits: commission splits across any combination of employees, like a lead plumber and an apprentice on an install

It also supports employee-specific rates, revenue tiers, job-size tiers, user-specific tiers, manual overrides logged with a reason, and callback tracking. For Jobber plumbing shops, it fills the commission gap noted in the intro.

TeamBuyIn's pricing page lists $199 per month for up to 5 users, plus $30 per month for each additional user.

Where it doesn't fit: TeamBuyIn does not integrate with ServiceTitan, and it does not track time.

2. ServiceTitan

Best for: larger plumbing companies already on ServiceTitan.

ServiceTitan's performance pay covers Sold By commissions on sales and spiff bonuses on pricebook items from completed jobs. Its own Performance Pay overview uses a plumbing example: a sales technician with a 5% Sold By rate sells an $1,100 kitchen sink install with $100 in materials treated as job costs.

  1. Commissionable base: $1,100 − $100 = $1,000
  2. Commission: $1,000 × 0.05 = $50

That material deduction answers the pay basis question from earlier. Spiffs can be set per pricebook item, and splits are adjusted on the job invoice. According to ServiceTitan's guide to commissions, splits, and spiffs, 100% of the split goes to the first technician assigned unless the office changes it.

The more flexible Configurable Payroll, with pay profiles, job filters, and sliding scales, is only available in the ServiceTitan Works package and only for technicians.

3. Housecall Pro

Best for: plumbing shops on Housecall Pro with one pay basis and office-managed splits.

According to Housecall Pro's Tracking Commissions on Jobs article, each team member gets a Worked by rate and a Sold by rate. The office assigns those roles to line items on a job's Commissions card. You can calculate per line item or turn the job into a Manual Split pool with percentages or fixed-dollar overrides. Price Book Commissions let individual items carry their own rates.

Against the three plumbing needs:

  • Pay basis: you pick Revenue or Gross Profit, and it applies to every job and team member. You cannot pay drain calls on revenue and water heaters on profit.
  • Spiffs: the help articles describe percentage rates on items and fixed-dollar overrides in Manual Split, with no separate flat spiff setting.
  • Splits: if you choose Gross Profit, only Manual Split is supported, so every shared install needs the office to set percentages.

Two more limits: commissions apply to jobs only, not estimates, and the Commissions card is not available in the Housecall Pro mobile app, so plumbers cannot see it in the field. TeamBuyIn sits on top of Housecall Pro to fill those gaps.

4. FieldPulse

Best for: growing plumbing shops that want commissions calculated on estimates and invoices inside their field service software.

According to FieldPulse's commission calculation article, commissions calculate automatically on estimates and invoices once enabled. You choose a percentage of gross sales, a percentage of gross margin, or a flat rate. Per FieldPulse's September 2025 release notes, admins can toggle commission eligibility for each team member and give individual employees a custom method instead of the company default.

For spiffs, FieldPulse offers commission templates, predefined bonuses you apply to an estimate or invoice, like a reward when a technician sells a preventive maintenance plan.

That covers pay basis and spiffs well. Having gross margin and gross sales both available, with per-employee methods, handles the water heater versus drain call problem better than a single account-wide basis. The articles we reviewed do not describe how splits work, so confirm that on a demo if your installs are shared.

5. Simpro

Best for: commercial and project-based plumbing contractors on Simpro Premium.

Simpro targets plumbing contractors doing both service and project work. According to Simpro's commission setup guide, commissions are available in Simpro Premium. You create named commission tiers with a rate, assign them to employees or contractors, and set whether commission triggers on the job, the invoice, or the payment. A commission report shows the job amount and commission details, always calculated exclusive of tax.

The payment trigger is useful on long commercial jobs: a plumber can be paid as the customer pays, instead of when the job is first invoiced. The tradeoff is weight. Simpro is built for larger commercial operations, and commissions are locked to the Premium tier.

6. Smart Service

Best for: plumbing shops that run their books in QuickBooks and pay simple percentages or flat amounts per job.

Smart Service is field service software built around QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online. According to Smart Service's commission tracking post, commissions attach to the job record, so each closed job carries who earned, the basis, the rate, and the subtotal. It supports a flat percentage of the job subtotal and a fixed dollar amount per completed job. Their own plumbing example is an operation that pays $25 per drain-cleaning service call.

That makes Smart Service a clean fit for a drain-cleaning spiff. The post centers on percentage-of-subtotal and flat-per-job structures, so confirm how it handles profit-based pay on material-heavy installs.

7. Successware

Best for: plumbing companies that want accounting, payroll, and commissions in one back-office system.

Successware markets dedicated plumbing software with integrated accounting. Commissions live in its payroll module. According to Successware's payroll documentation, all earnings, including commissions and bonuses, are entered as pay items, and you decide whether they factor into premium-rate calculations. A recent platform release added an "Include Commissions In Cost" filter to the Job Cost Analysis report, so you can see what commissions do to job margins.

The documentation we reviewed focuses on how commissions flow through payroll and job costing. It describes less about how commission rules are built, so ask for a walkthrough of your drain, water heater, and split scenarios.

8. EarnedCrew

Best for: small plumbing shops that want a standalone commission workspace and are comfortable entering jobs themselves.

EarnedCrew describes itself as commission software for small HVAC and plumbing shops. Owners review each technician's commission and payroll health before closing a period, technicians get a private view of their earnings and the calculation behind each job, and finalized payouts are locked as a history snapshot. There is a free starting workspace.

The tradeoff is how jobs get in. According to its homepage, you enter completed jobs directly or stage a CSV import, and no Housecall Pro, Jobber, or ServiceTitan integration is listed. That puts back most of the manual work commission software is supposed to remove.

Other Tools You'll See Recommended

These names come up when plumbing owners search for commission software, but each has a reason it didn't make the list.

  • Jobber: strong plumbing field service software, but we found no native commission feature in its help center. Jobber plumbing shops pair it with an add-on like TeamBuyIn.
  • GorillaDesk: the Pro plan includes production and sales commission features, but GorillaDesk positions itself for pest control, lawn care, and cleaning businesses.
  • Sequifi: an HR, payroll, and commission platform that replaces your payroll provider. Its payroll page lists mortgage, solar, roofing, fiber, HVAC, turf, and pest control, with no plumbing.
  • STAKT: sales commission software that connects to Salesforce, HubSpot, and Pipedrive. It is built for CRM-driven field sales teams, and plumbing is not among the industries it targets.

Plumbing Commission Software FAQ

What is the best commission software for plumbing companies?

For plumbing companies on Housecall Pro or Jobber, TeamBuyIn is the strongest option because it pulls completed jobs automatically and handles mixed pay bases, spiffs, and splits. Plumbing companies on ServiceTitan should start with its native performance pay.

Does Jobber have commission tracking for plumbers?

We found no native commission feature in Jobber's help center. Plumbing shops on Jobber use an integrated add-on like TeamBuyIn to calculate commissions from completed jobs.

Should plumbers be paid commission on revenue or gross profit?

It depends on the job. On material-heavy work like water heater and sewer replacements, gross profit keeps commissions tied to margin. On drain calls with few materials, revenue is simpler. Software that lets you use both avoids forcing one basis on every job.

How do you split commission between a lead plumber and an apprentice?

Several platforms here document split support. ServiceTitan adjusts splits on the invoice, Housecall Pro uses Worked by roles or a Manual Split pool, and TeamBuyIn saves splits among any combination of employees.

Can plumbers see their commissions in the field?

It varies. TeamBuyIn, ServiceTitan, and EarnedCrew give technicians their own earnings view. Housecall Pro's Commissions is not available in its mobile app.

How do I test plumbing commission software before switching?

Pick three real jobs from last month: a drain call, a water heater install, and a shared job. Run all three in the candidate tool and compare the payouts to what you actually paid.

Pick the Plumbing Commission Software That Pays Your Drain, Install, and Split Jobs Correctly

Go back to the three pieces from the start: pay basis, spiffs, and splits. If you are on ServiceTitan, its native performance pay covers them. If you are on Housecall Pro or Jobber, TeamBuyIn runs all three on the job data you already have, with approval before payroll and a technician view in the field.

Your next step: pull three jobs from last month (a drain call, a water heater install, and a job two plumbers shared) and write down what you paid on each. Then book a time with us, and we will run those three jobs in TeamBuyIn with you.
